Yesterday we finished our WORKSHOP on prayer. A – Adoration C – Confession
T – Thanksgiving
S - Supplication I want to take the next 12 days to write about the different techniques we studied. The workshop concludes with each of us making our own PRAYER schedule/commitment with the hope of deepening our relationship with God.
Today we are going to talk about a prayer of Thanksgiving.
There is no more real reminder of our fragility then our breath. How long can you hold your breath? 15 seconds, a minute, 3 minutes maybe. How long can you live without taking a breath? Between 30-180 seconds of oxygen deprivation, you may lose consciousness. At the one-minute mark, brain cells begin dying. At three minutes, neurons suffer more extensive damage, and lasting brain damage becomes more likely. Death can occur as soon as 4 to 6 minutes later.
The difference between life and death at any moment is only 10 minutes away.
This Breath PRAYER is a prayer of thanksgiving. Lie down on the floor (or in bed if the floor is not an option), palms down. Try to feel centered and calm. Focus on your breathing. In through your nose, allow your lungs to fill with air, extending your life just a little bit. Recognize how grateful you are for your life and the life of the people around you. Breath out through your nose letting the breath leave your body. Feeling vulnerable, explore your feelings. In that moment the only thing that matters is one more breath. Focus on your breathing for the next few minutes. Let your mind explore feeling of fear, fragility, and mortality until you settle on gratefulness.
Breath in…Thank you Father. Breath out relieving stress and anxiety.
