In 1 Chronicles 15, David tries again to move the ark into Jerusalem and this time, they transport it according to God's instructions. The result is a joyful celebration filled with music, dancing, and worship. David celebrates with his whole heart. However, not everyone understands his heart: his wife Michal criticizes him, but David makes it clear that he’s worshiping for an audience of One.

Now with the ark safe in Jerusalem, David appoints Levites to lead daily worship. He offers a powerful song of praise, mixing verses from different Psalms (1 Chronicles 16).

In 1 Chronicles 17, David feels settled in his palace. He expresses a desire to build a house for God, a temple. It was an excellent idea, but God says no. God promises instead to build David a legacy pointing to the coming Messiah. Sometimes God’s no isn’t rejection, but it’s redirection.

Psalm 112 describes the blessings of a person who follows God and is obedient to His voice. This person is described as generous, just, and full of integrity. Their family is strong, their influence is lasting, and they are at peace even in hard times. They don’t panic in the face of bad news because their hearts are steady and anchored in trust. They give freely, care for others, and shine like a light in the darkness. Amen.
