2 Kings 15 is a fast-paced record of kings in both Judah (South) and Israel (North). Let’s get a move on.
In the North, we see kings come and go (Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekahiah, Pekah). From Zechariah to Pekah, approximately 33 years and 7 months went by. All of these kings were characterized by political chaos, involvement with foreigners (Assyria), and spiritual and moral decline. All of them did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Jumping over to 2 Kings 17, Israel’s last king, Hoshea, was the final king of Israel, whose weak and rebellious rule led to the Assyrian conquest and the tragic end of the northern kingdom in exile. Ten of the original twelve tribes were lost. This is one of the most tragic chapters in the Bible.
In the South, we see Uzziah and Jotham in 2 Kings 15 and later Ahaz in 2 Kings 16. Uzziah started his reign faithfully and led Judah to strength, but pride led to his downfall, and he was struck with leprosy. Jotham, his son, governed wisely and maintained stability, but his son Ahaz reversed this legacy, leading Judah into idolatry and political compromise.Psalm 105 is a wonderful historical psalm that celebrates God’s faithfulness to His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Later, it mentions the preservation of Joseph; the enslavement of Israel in Egypt; Moses, Aaron, and the plagues; and finally, the Exodus bringing Israel to the promised land—every step of the way showing God’s purpose.
