In 2 Kings 12, Joash, the baby that was rescued is king. He started off well, restoring the Temple and walking in obedience while his mentor, the high priest Jehoiada, was alive. But when Jehoiada died, Joash's integrity crumbled. (South)
2 Kings 13, in the North, Jehoahaz and then Jehoash of Israel are introduced. Despite their sin, God shows mercy when the people call to Him. We also see the final moments of the prophet Elisha, whose legacy continues even after death, his bones bring a man back to life! Our work is never done!
In 2 Kings 14, back in the South, remember that baby Joash that become king at seven, He grew up and had children of his own. King Amaziah of Judah, son of Joash, starts off doing what was right, just like his father, but with a divided heart. He wins a victory but becomes arrogant, picking an unnecessary fight with Israel and loses badly. His pride led to downfall. Stay humble! Yours can lead you there too. Meanwhile in the North, we jump to the next in line, Jeroboam II.
Although these last few kings of the South started off well, they ended their reign in defeat. God wants us to begin well and finish strong! Stay rooted, your faithful choices have eternal echoes.
Psalm 104 is an amazing song of admiration that celebrates God as Creator. Walking through creation, not just as an event, but as a living, breathing system under God's control.
